I'm a little ashamed of myself.
But only a little.
I read eight books this past week. That's right. Eight.
I was really looking for a good fiction fix, but since all most of our books are still in our storage unit and we can't just go our and buy enough to keep up with my veracious literary appetite.
So, I looked onto my parent's book shelf, and lo and behold, what do I see?
The entire Little House on the Prairie books (sans Little House in the Big Woods.)
Oh my joy.
I had actually only read two of the books before, Little House on the Prairie and On the Banks of Plum Creek. And I had read those over and over again.
And over, and over.
And then I assigned my fifth graders to read them!
And I read them again.
Somehow, I had never read the rest of the books however, so I buckeled down and read them!

The First Four Years
Let me try to briefly review these eight books. First of all, remember that these are classified as children's books and are easily read by most 4th-6th graders. So my undertaking wasn't really one to be aplauded, trust me.
Secondly, if I had to chose just one word to describe all of the books it would be.....Charming. These books are just delicious, and you will surely be charmed from the very beginning to the last few words of the series.
The premise of the books, which can be classified as autobiographical instead of historical fiction, since they are based off of Laura's real travels and stories as a child, is about the Ingalls family during their pioneer trek from Wisconsin, to the Kansas Territory, to Minnesota, and finally to the Dakota territories, where they finally settle and Laura and her sisters continue to grow up.
The stories keep you on the edge of your seat and sometimes it is hard to believe that all of these events actually happened to one family!
I would highly recommend these books to anyone who was looking for an interesting, historical read!

8 books!?! wow! I have had those books on my list to read for quite a long time, just have not gotten around to it!!
I LOVE the Little House books, and so do my girls! It is a great series to get lost in!
I've never read any of the LHOTP books but... maybe I should?
LOVE them! I can't remember how many I have read, possibly all, but I had the box set growing up and I know my mom and I read some of them together as a child.
Hey Brittany, thanks for your comment on my post. I agree that I don't think that people out there are purposefully celebrating paganism when they celebrate Halloween, and I'm not claiming "moral righteousness" on this issue - my main point is just to inform everyone of the origins of the holiday and it's completely a matter of conscience between each Christian and God as to what extent they celebrate Halloween - my personal convictions are to not take part in it, not only because of it's origins in paganism, but also because of the way it is still celebrated so darkly by many today. I just don't feel right taking part in a holiday that is focused so much on death, devils, ghosts, etc. But that's just my personal convictions, I know there are many different views on this, and honestly it's between each individual and God. I respect your opinion, I'm definitely not trying to point a finger at anyone, but we'll just have to respectfully disagree on this - love ya, Friend!
8 Books, in a week?? Wow, I am so impressed, I don't know that I have read 8 books in a year, does that make me sound ignorant? I have heard great things about these book, way to go girl! I do read, I need to do it more!
