The Blessing Box(es)

Have you ever read "Little House on the Prairie?"

Remember when Pa would return from a trip into town and would bring small little goodies for Laura and her sisters?

An orange, a stick of candy, some fabric.

All common place things in town, but there out on the prairie they were rare. Extraordinary even. They savored those things. Relished in the tastes from "home."

Today I got another little glimpse into that kind of simple pleasure.

My grandparents (Hi Grandma and Grandpa K!) sent Ian, baby, and I a wonderful Christmas care package.

There were adorable little clothes for baby Girl (name forthcoming, I promise,) with the teeny tiniest little socks I'd ever seen. Then there were (not pictured,) a great set of side snap under shirts, perfect for those early weeks when you want to avoid pulling things over the new belly button.
Then, the food goodies! Brownie mixes, Macaroni and Cheese (YUM!) Parmesan Cheese (how have I been eating pasta for the past five months?!?) Crystal Light, Hot Cocoa mix, and Blueberry muffin mix! (blueberries aren't very well known around here!)
We also got our first Christmas card of the year in that box, and it totally made my day to read a hand written note from my Grandma!

Thank you, Grandma and Grandpa! I probably should have waited until Christmas to open the package, but I just could not contain myself! I think we're going to have Blueberry Muffins on Christmas morning.

And now, since I can load pictures again (we've been out of internet for several days,) here are the two baby items I just bought this weekend:
The pink Dachshund shirt is especially sentimental to us because I bought a boys Dachshund shirt back in January from Janie and Jack (love their clothes!) I prayed over that little shirt for almost eight months, asking God to give us a baby in His timing. Though the shirt can probably be gender neutral (it's orange, so I'm not convinced,) I really wanted a little girl Dachshund shirt to remind me of how this little blessing is such an answer to prayers!

I probably should mention the fact that Ian's family has always had Dachshunds so that is why we picked that particular dog. Ha. I'm not really fond of that species, but it's his family's thing so it's my thing too now.

The little white and blue dress is just precious and was on sale! I love Gymboree and was super excited to find one in a mall in the big city!

We got another package from my parents! Also chock full of delicious goodies (nobody ever said care packages had to be healthy, did they?) Little Debbie's, candy canes (now on my tree!) Publix Chili Mix (THE BEST,) ro-tel and velveeta (earmarked for New Years Eve,) Celestial Seasonings Sleepytime tea (my go to nighttime tea,) bacon bits, contact solution, pepto bismal, chocolates, baking supplies, and cookie cutters!

So excited to finally make my annual Sugar Cookies for Christmas! I will probably tackle that this weekend.

Thanks Mom and Dad for that great package.

It's the little pleasure in life that we thrive on. A hand written note, a lifeline to home, and, of course, chocolate. :)

Yay! I love getting packages too, and I am not on the prairie or on the other side of the world. How sweet of them to think of you!
BTW: I would check out the ingredients for the tea, and ask your OB if it's safe to drink. My midwife told me not to drink chamomile while pregnant. It has been shown to cause miscarriages and preterm labor. I'm not trying to scare you, just be wary of teas-not all are pregnant/nursing friendly.

Janie and Jack is the BEST! But their collection of gender neutral is way too limited so good call on the little pink oneise! Very cute!

Hi! I came across your blog from It's a Love Story and I had to smile when I read this post. We also live overseas (Africa) and I know exactly how much those little boxes of goodies can mean! It's funny how much we take for granted when we have easy access to it! Hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas!
